In our current production, there is no difference whatsoever, but we include a 500K push-pull pot with the Dual Sound^®. Our original Super Distortion^® had 1 conductor plus shield. We introduced the Dual Sound^® with three conductors plus shield to allow more wiring options. As guitar manufacturers and players became more sophisticated, the market demanded four conductors plus shield on all humbuckers, so both models now have four conductors, as do all of our full-size humbuckers.

All 7-string models that we presently offer are listed on the 7-String pickup page; we are unable to make custom 7-string versions of any other 6-string pickups at this time.

DiMarzio full-size humbuckers are available in two different spacings for better string-to-pole piece alignment. Guitar makers vary both their bridge and nut dimensions, and offshore production can also be different from USA versions.

It's also true that using a high-output or "distortion" pickup with the lead channel of a very high-gain amp may create an extremely distorted sound, to the point where individual notes have reduced definition and chords blur together. The best way to reduce the amount of distortion in this situation is by lowering your amp's preamp volume or first gain control.

The X2N® and D Activator-X™ have solid bar polepieces that work in both normal and F-spaced applications, so these models have "universal" spacing.  All 7-string humbuckers are available F-spaced only. All Parker Fly replacement pickups are F-spaced only.

Evolution® Middle single-coils that come on the Ibanez JEM are not ordinarily stocked at retail outlets, though some online dealers carry this model as the ISCV2. You can achieve a similar result by wiring an HS-2™ for single-coil operation only: black wire hot, red and bare wires ground, green and white not connected.

If your DiMarzio® single coil-size pickup has a replaceable plastic cover, you can order a replacement cover in the color you want by contacting our sales department. The suggested U.S. retail prices of our products can be found throughout this site or by requesting a full copy of our consumer price list. DiMarzio® dealers determine actual retail prices in their own stores, but most dealers offer our suggested retail price. Prices outside the USA are generally higher due to import costs and VAT.

We can do alternate polepiece colors on some models that have adjustable polepieces. Please call or email with your specific request. There is an extra charge of $15 List Price for alternate polepiece colors when available. Dealer prices may vary.

Generally, orders for pickups in standard colors leave our factory within three days of order submission (and often faster than that). Items in non-standard colors or configurations may take up to five business days to leave our factory depending on production demand. As of 2020-2021, lead times may be further extended due to COVID-19.

Orders are fulfilled on a first come, first serve basis, and larger orders may require additional lead times. Please contact us for further information on turnaround times if you require an item within a specific time frame.

Unless otherwise noted, the standard color for all full-sized Humbuckers, Soap Bars, Tele, Bass and Acoustic pickups is black. The standard color for all Strat replacement pickups is white. The standard finish on pickups with metal covers is polished nickel.
