DiMarzioĀ® dealers determine actual retail prices in their own stores, but most dealers offer our suggested retail price. Prices outside the USA are generally higher due to import costs and VAT.

Although "black back" is not a nickname that we have ever used, it commonly refers to the fact that some of our humbuckers have black base plates rather than brass or nickel silver. This is simply a cosmetic choice which does not affect performance, and it doesn't actually refer to specific models. However, the Breedā¢ and EvolutionĀ® models are built with black base plates as a standard feature.
EvolutionĀ® Middle single-coils that come on the Ibanez JEM are not ordinarily stocked at retail outlets, though some online dealers carry this model as the ISCV2. You can achieve a similar result by wiring an HS-2ā¢ for single-coil operation only: black wire hot, red and bare wires ground, green and white not connected.
The List Price for DiMarzioĀ® full-size humbuckers applies to black, cream and black/cream only. All other colors and color combinations on full-size humbuckers have a $10 higher List Price. Dealer prices may vary.
It's also true that using a high-output or "distortion" pickup with the lead channel of a very high-gain amp may create an extremely distorted sound, to the point where individual notes have reduced definition and chords blur together. The best way to reduce the amount of distortion in this situation is by lowering your amp's preamp volume or first gain control.
Generally, orders for pickups in colors take an extra day or two to leave our factory. As of 2020-2021, lead times may be further extended due to COVID-19.
We can do alternate polepiece colors on some models that have adjustable polepieces. Please call or email with your specific request. There is an extra charge of $15 List Price for alternate polepiece colors when available. Dealer prices may vary.

Unless otherwise noted, the standard color for all full-sized Humbuckers, Soap Bars, Tele, Bass and Acoustic pickups is black. The standard color for all Strat replacement pickups is white. The standard finish on pickups with metal covers is polished nickel.
